The Courts series revolved around the themes of Sports graphics and their metaphor for ancestral lifestyles, fantasy as a tool for creation, genetics, and the influence of modern social and political systems on our connection to place. A playful examination of hard vs soft, perfect vs organic, and new connections vs older buried connections. I wanted to show these abstracted, flexible, adaptable systems through the compositions themselves, but also in the process of balanced imperfection that I used to make the paintings. Most of the works’ process also emphasizes imagination as a tool for devising new systems and connecting to a more balanced way of living.
